FAQ’s
Why TIKA?
TIKA was chosen as our name for our products as it is the Maoritanga principle concerned about doing things right, in the right way, in the right order. How perfect for Dirt Doesn't Hurt is that!!
TIKA, is one of the three fundamental principles of Maoritanga (pono, tika and aroha) and these principles bind everything together by providing a way in which everything has to be accomplished. They give a guideline of attitude towards ones own life and the one of others.
TIKA sums up how we feel about Dirt Doesn't Hurt and what we are trying to achieve for Aotearoa, our community and our whanau.
What are the differences between the bags?
The TIKA Junior has a carabiner for hooking on the outside straps of school bags. TIKA Junior bags are ideal for preschoolers with dirty or wet clothes.
TIKA School bags are exactly the same as the TIKA Junior but without the carabiner. Ideal as a book bag for school kids.
The dimensions of the TIKA Junior and TIKA School are the same. The back of the bags are 47cm high when the flap is up and 37cm high when the flap is down. The bags are 33cm wide.
The TIKA Sports are larger and ideal for dirty sports gear or swimming gear plus a towel. They are 39cm wide x 41cm high (with flap down) and do not have a carabiner.
TIKA Office is for people who need a waterproof iPad or document wallet. They are 34cm wide x 32 cm high (with flap down) and do not have a carabiner.
How do I order?
You can order online through our website, which accepts payments by credit cards and PayPal. You can also email us your order and we will provide banking details.
How long does an order take to fill?
As soon as the payment is received then we can process your order and you should receive it in 3-5 working days (within NZ).
If a product is not in stock, we will get in touch with you right away, give you all the options and keep you informed every step of the process.
Embroidery adds another 4 to 5 days onto the order time.
How much is postage?
Postage anywhere in urban NZ is $5.00, regardless of how many bags you buy.
Rural delivery addresses within NZ now get charged an additional $3.70 by NZ Post, so the total postage is $8.70 regardless of how many bags ordered. Our website doesn't have a rural delivery option but if you select your country as Angola rather than NZ, then you will get the correct rural delivery charge.
Do you take orders from people who live overseas?
Yes we absolutely do! We can’t accept overseas orders thru our website (yet!) so please email us with your address and order and we can help you from there.
What are the bags made of?
Our bags and aprons are made of a cotton, or cotton mix fabric which is coated with a PVC laminate coating. It’s strong, fray resistant, waterproof, wipeable and mega durable, which is why it is the perfect choice for our bags. We want our bags to last for simply ages, eliminating that need to “replace” which happens a lot with todays products.
Can I request a sample of fabric to be sent to me?
Yes you can! For $2 you can request a sample of as many of the fabric patterns as you like. The $2 covers the postage of the envelope to you and a prepaid envelope which is included so you can send the samples back to us when you are finished looking. There is no point in them getting chucked in the rubbish when others can use them!
Do you provide a discount for centres or schools?
Yes we do! We provide a discount for centres or schools who place an order of ten bags or more.
Centres, kindies or schools can apply the discount code TIKAJ for TIKA Junior bags to receive a discount that makes the price $20 ex. GST per bag with no embroidery. For a bag that is embroidered with the child's name, the discount code is TIKAJEMB. If a school or centre applies the discount code of TIKASCH for TIKA School bags, then they can get bookbags for $18 ex. GST per bookbag with no embroidery.
We can do embroidery for centres and schools where we embroider the name of the centre or school or their website address. If you want this, please email us at [email protected] so we can give you all the options. This is an extra $4.50 per bag ex. GST.
Centres and schools that do bulk orders can get discounted delivery of bags. Please email us at [email protected] to enquire about this.
What is your "No Worries" Returns policy?
We understand that sometimes when you are shopping online, the product that arrives isn't quite what you had expected. We don't want our customers to worry about this when shopping with dirtdoesnthurt.co.nz so we have a "No Worries" Returns policy.
In addition to your statutory rights, you have 30 days from the day on which you receive the goods to notify us if you want to return or exchange an item for any reason. Goods to be returned or exchanged must be in an unused, resaleable condition.
If you want to make a "No Worries" return or exchange, then email us at [email protected] and we can send you further instructions as to how to do this. We will refund you the cost of the item less any delivery costs.
What other things is Dirt Doesn't Hurt doing to be a sustainable enterprise?
We are pretty passionate about the environment and are trying to think all the time about how we can better to care for our beautiful Aotearoa.
We package our bags in recycled brown paper rather than plastic postage bags. We ask for invoices from suppliers to be sent to us electronically and we don't print them. We recycle all of the plastic packaging that we get around different components like carabiners and fabric. We also collect all of our fabric offcuts and up-cycle them into fabric sample swatches for customers who want to see the fabric before buying a bag, helping us be zero waste.
We try to buy as many of our components from NZ home grown businesses as possible. At the moment our velcro, eyelets, washers, and fabric are all from NZ businesses (although some of these have been originally sourced by those businesses from overseas).
We also use all NZ local businesses in our production chain. Our cutters, sewers, eyelet setters, and embroiderers are all South Auckland based, and we feel pretty great about being involved with these great little businesses which employ a whole range of different people from all walks of life.
Can I interact with DDH on FB & Instagram?
You sure can! Our FB link is facebook.com/dirtdoesnthurt.co.nz and our Instagram link is instagram.com/dirtdoesnthurt.co.nz
Why do you give back to the community?
We give back all profits to under-resourced kindies and ECE centres to help with sustainability projects for little people because we want to try to make a difference. It’s very important to us and one of the core reasons we created Dirt Doesn’t Hurt. We help centres complete the sustainability education cycle by helping to build vege gardens, worm farms and also by donating some of our gorgeous TIKA bags!
